JOHN Sullivan and Yado Mambo will leave The Valley this summer, manager Chris Powell has confirmed.

Defender Mambo spent the latter part of the campaign on loan at Shrewsbury, while keeper Sullivan played a key role in AFC Wimbledon’s successful battle against relegation from League Two.

But with both out of contract this summer at The Valley, Powell this morning confirmed the duo are set to move on.

He said: “I have spoken to a couple of players already, John Sullivan and Yado Mambo.

“Those lads will be looking to play elsewhere.

“We are trying to be fair to them.

“John has been a terrific character, trainer and goalkeeper for us but he needs to play regularly, and he has just had a good taste of that.

“Hopefully, whether it is at Wimbledon again or not, he can get going and the same goes for Yado.

“He has had a taste of League Two and League One this year and the reports back were good.

“But now he’s had that feeling of playing week in and week out, preparing and playing games so I said to him it would be hard for him to play here.

“He was disappointed, they always are.

“In the long run he will go out and learn his trade and have a career.

“He may have to start lower down, but I’m sure that he will have one (a bright career).

“We have seen it with one or two players here, Danny Shittu and Michael Turner.

“Hopefully if he works on the attributes that he has and learns and experiences first team football, then he can have a career in the game.

“I hope he does and I wish those lads well.”
