MICHAEL Smith struck four times as a young Charlton side ran out comfortable winners in the Kent Senior Cup final at Tonbridge Angels last night.

Charlton took an early lead when Bradley Jordan was fouled in the centre of the pitch after being picked out by a Morgan Fox pass.

The latter’s quick thinking presented Jordan with a crossing opportunity and the skipper laid a pass back for Cook to scramble the ball home.

Minutes later the lead was doubled.

Fox was again the architect as he produced another impressive cross-field pass to find the head of Joe Pigott.

His knock down fell kindly into the path of strike partner Smith, who lashed a volley past the Tonbridge keeper.

Ollie Schulz threatened to pull one back for the hosts, but Nick Pope did well to deal with his looping header.

It was 3-0 before the half hour as Fox claimed the assist when his corner from the right was met by Kevin Feely, who glanced a header into the far corner of the net to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Tonbridge weren’t going down without a fight, however, and scored just minutes into the second half with striker Mark Lovell on hand to convert after good work by the hosts down the right.

But any route Tonbridge looked to have back into the game vanished shortly afterwards.

Pigott’s initial effort was blocked by keeper Lee Worgan but the Addicks striker had the presence of mind to lay a pass back to Smith, who grabbed his second and Charlton’s fourth.

A speculative punt forward from Jordan in the centre had the home defence all at sea and when Worgan failed to clear, Smith was on hand to round the keeper and complete his hat-trick.

With Tonbridge’s defence tiring, Smith shimmied his way into the area before his shot deflected into the net off a home defender.

The rout was completed five minutes from time.

The pitch was proving testing for both sides, but it was Charlton who were the main beneficiary as an awkward bounce caught Worgan out, presenting Smith with an empty net to cap a memorable personal display with his fourth of the contest.
