CHRIS Powell has signed Swansea City midfielder Mark Gower on loan until the end of the season.
News Shopper revealed last week the 34-year-old veteran was on the Addicks’ radar and today it was confirmed he had joined in a temporary deal for the remainder of the campaign.
Earlier this morning at his weekly press conference, Powell had acknowledged Gower was someone who could soon be at The Valley.
“Possibly, yeah,” the Charlton manager replied when asked.
“His name has come up alongside one or two other midfielders and it is an area I’ve always maybe wanted to do something on.
“We will wait and see.”
Powell also revealed his desire to make early summer signings this year, similar to the way he had done in 2011 before the Addicks went on to run away with the League One title.
He explained: “I would hope it is busier than last year.
“I hope it would be us moving forward and improving our squad in certain areas which I want to improve on.
“It is never easy because you are never ever the only club involved in trying to bring in a player because agents will try and get the best deal that they can, which is their job.
“But I’m hopeful of trying to conclude one or two deals as early as I can and making sure we get the players on board a bit earlier than we did last year because I feel it will benefit us like it did in the League One season.
“It benefits you better in the long-term that you have players in.
“They’ve bedded in with the way we work and then we can move forward.”
