Welling United 4-1 Tonbridge Angels

FOLLOWING late drama in their previous two home games, Welling United supporters who braved the bitter temperatures enjoyed a victory that opened up a three point lead at the top.

New loan signing Jake Reid was thrown straight into the starting line up at the expense of Kurtis Guthrie but other than that the Welling team was unchanged from the team who drew with Basingstoke four days earlier.

Anthony Sinclair-Furlonge, on his Tonbridge debut, was involved early on with a cool piece of defending to thwart Kiernan Hughes-Mason.

Lee Clarke did well to make room for Jake Gallagher but Welling’s hero from the last two games failed to muster sufficient power to worry Lee Worgan in the Angels goal.

When Tonbridge failed to clear a corner fully, Fraser Franks chipped the ball back but just beyond the far post.

Worgan made a hash of a clearance but Clarke’s first time effort from 40 yards was gathered by the retreating custodian.

Lee Clarke slots a shot past Anthony Sinclair-Furlonge to score Welling's third goal

Jon Heath broke dangerously for Tonbridge but his low cross was met by Anthony Acheampong ahead of Mikel Suarez.

Jamie Day hit a screamer just wide and Reid turned well before shooting off target.

Ross Lafayette then chested down to Clarke, but again Welling failed to work Worgan as his shot went beyond the upright.

Lee Browning demonstrated that Welling could be made to pay for not taking their chances when he got behind the Wings’ defence but saw his shot saved by Sam Mott. Frannie Collin then gave notice of the danger he posed when turning well before shooting wide.

One of Jack Obersteller’s many excellent dead ball deliveries found Ben Martin at the far post but his header flew into the side-netting.

Obersteller’s next corner, in the 39th minute, brought about the opening goal.

This time it was Acheampong who was found at the far post and he powered his header home.

Acheampong side-foots in his second and Welling's fourth

After Obersteller had tried to sneak a free kick inside Worgan’s near post, Welling added a second.

Hughes-Mason got close to the by-line before whipping in a delicious header that Lafayette headed goalwards with the help of a touch from a defender.

After the break, the visitors were keen to get themselves back into the game and Browning hit an effort that swerved away late.

Four minutes in and Tonbridge reduced the arrears. Collecting a ball from Ashley Miller, Collin advanced before finishing clinically.

Lee Clarke and Jake Reid challenge the Tonbridge keeper

Franks hit a fierce drive that was well saved by Worgan and after being cautioned for a foul that stopped Tonbridge from breaking, Clarke headed another wonderful Obersteller delivery over from close range.

Seventeen minutes into the half, Clarke swept home to restore Welling’s two goal lead after Lafayette and Reid had combined well to create the opening.

A minute later, Lafayette almost scored when his instinctive touch flew just beyond the far post.

Once again an Obersteller corner caused problems with Reid being unlucky not to mark his debut with a goal as his close range header smashed into the upright and away.

On loan striker Jake Reid

Mott then made an excellent save as Collin looked to repeat his earlier success then Worgan was again called into action, saving from Hughes-Mason after good work from Gallagher.

Welling’s fourth and final goal came in the 81st minute courtesy of a Day corner that was side foot volleyed home by Acheampong as substitute Kurtis Guthrie made a nuisance of himself.

Tonbridge claimed their first corner of the game with four minutes remaining but could not capitalise on it and Welling saw out the remaining minutes in comfort.

Another fantastic result for the Wings! Top of the league! Three points clear, and two games in hand!
Welling's £200 season ticket offer is looking to be a bargain for next season!

Can't wait for the next home game at Park View Road against Chelmsford City FC on Good Friday (29th March).

Adults are £12 and kids go FREE! So bring the whole family along to support the local team to the championship. Will almost certainly make a great day out.

Good result for Welling, up to the big boys league next year worried then because I think they will struggle and then back down better to stay in the league they can compete in,

Many people said the same about Dartford and they're currently mid-table.

True,

But Dartford have the money to spend on better players will the Wings be able to do the same look at Ebbsfleet no money and struggling and who wants to go and see and side that struggles

Dartford's budget in the conference national has been tiny compared to most teams, so I wouldn't worry too much.

The bigger problem is being part time, we just can't attract the players who (in the main) want to play full time football.

You can’t compare yourself with Ebbsfleet - their issues are more down to the fiasco of MyFC rather than money problems.

Dartford are minnows in the Conference but have beaten most of the ex-league clubs – not because of their budget, but because of a strong team spirit and a great manager – and from what I’ve seen of your season so far, you’ve got both of those in spades.

I can’t believe someone has said you’d rather stay in the conference south, that’s crazy talk. What would you rather – a game against Boring Wood or watching your team run out at Kenilworth Road in front of a crowd of 6,000?

Exactly.

I know there’s a rivalry between the clubs but I personally would like another local team in the conference, especially if the Fleet go down – so good luck for the rest of the season and I look forward to renewing our Christmas derby games!

Most of Dartford's players are part-time and it's virtually the same squad as last year. It was only one goal that goal that got Dartford up instead of Welling last, and this years Welling squad is way better than last year's.

As for Ebsfleet, there problems have been completely down to the whole MyFC collapse.

Well its only my opinion, but think it would be hard to attract new supporters if we struggle in the conference which i think we will,

As for attracting new supporters I see on the Welling forum I am being put down as a dartford supporter do Welling really want to attract new supporters because if they go on the forum they would be unwelcomed on there and it sends the wrong signals out sorry but once again only my opinion

I don't think anybody on the Welling forum has called you a Dartford fan from I can see.

At the moment alot of people don't go Welling because they're 'only in' the Blue Square South.

The Blue Square Premier has alot more respectability. Hence why quite a few of the BSP games are televised.

I don't think the locals would care what position Welling were in if they had the like of Luton, Wrexham, Grimsby and potentially AFC Wimbledon or Barnet.

Exactly. Can't have complacency. Especially now. Still quite a way to go.

On JGfc's behalf I apologise then.

As you've said, there's never been a need for segregation in the ground, and never been any clashes between fans.

It's the only ground I've ever known where both sets of fans can have a few drinks and chinwag in the club bar before and after the game.

No need to apologise to me I know what its like at the ground but my point was people who do not know could be given the wrong impression if they look on the forum.

Anyway up the wings looking forward to next season already I urge anyone thinking of going to match to call into PVR and see the mighty wings
