A HEARTBREAKING 95th minute goal consigned Bromley to a 4-3 defeat at Sutton United last night.
The Lillywhites’five-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at Gander Green Lane, despite taking a 3-2 lead after being two goals down before finally succumbing to two more goals in the final quarter of an hour.
In a poor first half it was Sutton United who created the best of the chances, with Michael Boateng firing over.
Harry Ottaway went close with two headers before a snapshot from Anthony Riviere was well saved by Bromley keeper Joe Welch.
The visitors were caught napping in the 40th minute as Sutton opened the scoring.
Danny Waldren’s poor free-kick went straight to an opponent who set up an attack, from which Craig Dundas fired home after his initial shot had been cleared off the line and Leroy Griffiths’ follow up had come back off the post straight to Dundas.
Sloppy defending led to Sutton doubling their advantage six minutes into the second period when Dundas was given the freedom of the six-yard box to head home a right-wing cross.
However, Bromley were given a lifeline in the 58th minute as Pierre Joseph-Dubois beat the offside appeals to fasten onto Elliott Buchanan’s pass and slot home past former Bromley keeper Tom Lovelock.
Five minutes later the visitors were on equal terms Ali Fuseini’s free-kick found its way to Buchanan on the edge of the area and his low volley through a crowd of players squeezed home at the far post.
It got better for Bromley in the 68th minute as they took the lead.
Louis Theophanous stole in on the blind side to round Lovelock and slot a shot into an empty net following good work by Max Noble and Fuseini.
But the advantage only lasted five minutes as Jamie Stewart levelled when a poor defensive clearance landed at the feet of the Sutton captain.
The home side should have regained their lead in the 76th minute when Waldren clumsily clattered into Ottaway to concede a penalty.
However, Welch brilliantly blocked Sam Rents’ spot-kick and quickly recovered to deny Dundas his hat -rick with an equally brilliant block from the follow-up.
Substitutes, Harry Beautyman and Tom Jordan went close for the home side in the closing minutes before Sutton snatched victory in the fifth minute of time added on.
More sloppy defending following a long throw in led to Beautyman smashing home from close range to the despair of the Bromley faithful.
