SIDCUP’S Jimmy Roe has been crowned the national schoolboy class two 54kg boxing champion.

The 14-year-old Kemnal student defeated Tyneside’s Joseph Burnside in Saturday’s final at Everton Park Sports Centre in Liverpool.

Roe, who has had to box in every preliminary round, showed an array of skills and determination to win the votes of all five judges.

The contest was set at electric pace from start to finish and saw Burnside receive a standing count in the last round to guarantee Roe victory.

A member of Bodyshots ABC, Roe was the only south east London club boxer to get to the finals and will now go on to represent his club for England in the three nations tournament.

He said: “It was great some of my friends and fans managed to make the long journey to Liverpool to support me.

“I would like to thank everyone for their continued support.”
