BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg insists there is much more to come from his team following last night’s victory over Chelmsford City at Hayes Lane.

The Lillywhites impressed as they swept aside their promotion-chasing opponents and Goldberg believes the result serves to show the potential his side possess as they continue to build.

He said: “It’s fair to say Chelmsford underestimated us today.

“We’re getting stronger and recently felt we’re starting to find the right momentum with the formation and the system we’re playing.

“Louie Theophanous’ movement has been exceptional, which has allowed the likes of Mike Jones, Ali Fuesini and the two wingers to get into decent positions.

“The difference recently has been the good movement.”

Goldberg added: “We started from scratch last season with a fresh group of players and were fortunate enough at the start of this season to be able to strengthen while keeping the core of that team. It takes time.

“I hear stories we’ve got the potential to be better and be a top six side, but everybody should be very pleased we’ve assembled a team which has got that potential.

“Once you give us the opportunity to develop that team and reach their potential, hopefully, if we can keep them next year, then I’m sure that team will develop into a top six team.”

Bromley took a deserved early lead after 10 minutes when an Ishmael Welsh corner led to a goalmouth scramble, which eventually saw Theophanous prod home.

And with the home side having much the better of the first half, Goldberg felt they could have had more.

He explained: “We dominated the possession and had most of the clear cut chances on goal.

“We didn't quite get our just reward and I really expected them at half time to be read the right act and come and give us a real difficult second half.

“We were prepared for that and all credit to the team because it wasn’t just the first half where we feel we played the way we wanted to play but in the second half we became stronger as the game went on.”

Bromley did double their lead with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Substitute Tony Finn sent a volley soaring into the back of the net from the edge of the box following a cleared corner and the Bromley boss was pleased with the manner in which both goals arrived.

Goldberg said: “It’s great to score from a set piece because we’ve had too many occasions where we’ve put a good ball into the box from corners and not attacked them strong enough, so I’m delighted to get the goals in the way we did.”

The jubilant scenes from supporters at the final whistle were a far cry from those following recent poor home performances at Hayes Lane and Goldberg asked for some patience as he hinted the best is yet to come.

He added: “I’m proud of the fact we’ve assembled a team the fans think should be doing a lot better, because it means that we’ve assembled a squad they’re very happy with.

“You don’t just put a team out and they perform.

“It takes time, you have to develop them.

“Teams like Welling have had the same team for three years.

“For our own expectations we should be doing better, but the reality is it takes time and good things do take time.”
