SEVERAL Cambridge Harriers athletes competed at the weekend England Athletics indoor championships in Birmingham.

Beths Grammar School pupil Stephen Ball won his U17 men’s 800m semi, leading from start to finish with an indoor PB of 1m58.72s before going on to win the final by half a second.

His winning time of 1m56.81s is a new PB and sees him top the U17 rankings for the second time this season.

Vera Chinedu continued her great indoor season by winning the U15 girls’ 60m heat in 8.07s before setting a PB of 7.90s when finishing second in the semi-final.

She placed seventh in the final in 8.07s.

The following day Chinedu was in action again in the 200m and despite running just a tenth off her PB, she finished fourth so was unable to qualify for the semis.

Frano Vaino Doiseul set a new PB of 7.16s in his U17 men’s 60m semi but just missed out on a place in the final by 0.06s.

Denton Conteh, in his first year at U20 level, jumped 13.09m for eighth place in the triple jump.

Tobi Adeniyi took an early lead with 6.70m in the U17 men’s long jump, an effort good enough to secure a silver medal.
