Valley defender labels Forest as toughest Championship oponents so far

Forest completed the league double over Charlton on Saturday with a 2-0 win at The Valley, in a game where Yann Kermorgant was shown a first half red card.

Even before the dismissal of the Frenchman, Forest controlled the match and goals from Radoslaw Majewski and Henri Lansbury sealed for the points for the East Midlands side.

Cort praised the application of the visitors and admitted the task got a whole lot harder once Kermorgant had been sent packing, as he reflected on another home defeat for the men from SE7.

“Going down to 10 men against any team was always going to be hard,” said Cort.

“Especially against a team like them where they’re all technically very good and keep the ball very well with 11, so it was always going to be difficult after that.

“We saw it on the video – it’s a sending off.

“I think it’s down to frustration more than anything, Yann just swung his leg and kicked the guy but you can’t do that.”

Cort added: “He’s apologised to the boys.

“He’s a winner, he wants to win. We all want it win.

“It was just frustration and one of those crazy moments you have sometimes and I’m sure he won’t do it again. He’ll learn from it.

“They’re probably one of the toughest sides that we have played this season.

“The way Forest move the ball, they try to drag you into positions that you don’t want to go into.

“Fair play to them, they played really well and we struggled at times.”

The Addicks currently have the second worst home record in the Championship, a stark contrast to their away record which is the fourth best.

And Cort conceded results in SE7 have to improve between now and the end of the season.

He said: “Our home form hasn’t been what we have wanted it to be.

“Maybe we need to tinker a few things and maybe thinking about getting a few more bodies forward, who knows?

“That’s down to the manager and his coaching staff to decide what formation we go at, but at home we definitely need to improve.

“You have to remain upbeat about playing at home.

“On the road we have been really good, our confidence has been up, but at home it has just been a bit funny.

“I know the pitch does not help but the pitch is the same for the other team as well, so we can’t really use that as an excuse.

“It happens sometimes.

“Usually your home form is better than you away form but it is the reverse for us and hopefully we can change it around in the next game.

“We want this place to be a fortress but it hasn’t turned out like that as of yet.

“Hopefully by the Burnley game if we can sort a few things out, then hopefully it will be.”
