CRYSTAL Palace goal machine Glenn Murray’s reputation continues to grow, but he isn’t expecting to follow team-mate Wilfried Zaha into the England team just yet.

Murray struck the opener in last night’s 2-1 home victory over Bristol City, his 28th goal in a prolific season with the Eagles.

The Palace striker is now the second highest scorer in Europe behind only Lionel Messi and even though Jay Bothroyd got his first cap while with Championship Cardiff in 2010, Murray doesn’t anticipate repeating the feat anytime soon.

When asked if a potential phone call from Roy Hodgson was out of the question, the Selhurst forward said: “I think so, yeah.

“I’m sure there will be a few English Premier League strikers there fuming if I go ahead of them now. I would never expect to either.

“I think when Jay Bothroyd got called up there was maybe a shortage of English strikers in the Premier League doing well.

“Grant Halt and Rickie Lambert would be fuming if I went ahead of them.

“I think it is probably out of the question.”

Murray has proved a real handful for Championship defences this season but the man himself denied he expects to score every time he gets the ball.

“I wouldn’t go that far,” the Palace forward said.

“Obviously you’ve just got to keep alive in the box.

“I’m always going to get quality from Wilfried, Yannick, Dobbie and little Jonny behind me – I’m always going to get quality off them so I’ve just got to keep alive in the box and believe that I’m going to score.

“I’m enjoying my football here, it is a great place to be and I want to stay.”

Next up for the Eagles on Saturday is a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, a side who remain close to the relegation zone despite a recent improvement in results.

Murray added: “Every game is tough in the Championship, everyone is fighting for something whether it be down at the bottom or up at the top.

“It is a hard place to go, Hillsborough, and we will have to be at our best to get some points there.”
