CRYSTAL Palace ensured they picked up back-to-back home victories with a Selhurst success over Bristol City.

Glenn Murray grabbed his 28th goal of the season in the 34th minute and substitute Stephen Dobbie doubled the advantage midway through the second half.

Jonathan Parr scored an own goal right at the death to add an unlikely touch of credibility to the score for an abysmal Bristol City side, but the Eagles were never in danger of suffering yet another late collapse.

Ian Holloway made one change from the side which beat Middlesbrough 4-1 on Saturday, as Yannick Bolasie was named in the starting XI with Dobbie dropping to the bench.

Murray’s first-time shot was well caught by Tom Heaton moments before Wilfried Zaha fired well over.

Murray was prevented from testing the Bristol City keeper again by a timely tackle after a decent ball was delivered into the danger zone by Bolasie.

Albert Adomah placed a 20th minute free-kick from just outside of the area over Julian Speroni’s bar and then Palace had a Jazz Richards ‘goal’ disallowed for offside.

Bolasie nearly scored the goal of the season in the 25th minute with a stunning bicycle kick which beat Heaton before crashing back off the crossbar.

Zaha should probably have taken one touch less after being picked out by Jonny Williams’ pass inside the box but his eventual attempt took a deflection and went over.

Palace finally made the breakthrough 11 minutes before the break when Mile Jedinak’s long free-kick was met by Murray inside the box and the prolific striker buried a low shot past Heaton.

Murray could have had a second in first half stoppage time but he just failed to control the ball and it was put behind for a corner.

Palace were lacklustre at the start of the second period , so it came as no surprise when Holloway made a double change on the hour by throwing on Kevin Phillips and Dobbie for Zaha and Williams.

News Shopper: Yannick Bolasie tries a stunning overhead kick which hit the woodwork

Parr went close seconds after the new arrivals were introduced with a shot that flew just over.

Speroni had to gather Richard Foster’s low drive at the second attempt before the Eagles doubled their lead on 65 minutes when Dobbie fired a stunning 20-yard free-kick, awarded after Phillips had been fouled by Liam Fontaine, over the Bristol City wall and beyond the reach of Heaton.

Jonathan Stead’s header produced a decent stop from Speroni and Phillips was only denied by the woodwork after his volley from outside of the box beat Heaton only to hit the bar.

Phillips tried his luck again from 20 yards but this time Heaton was able to get a hand to the ball but there was a late scare in stoppage time as Parr headed into his own net.

But it came far too late in the day for the woeful visitors, who deservedly sit bottom of the Championship table.
