MILLWALL’S poor league form continued with an embarrassing home defeat at the hands of the Championship’s bottom side Peterborough.

George Boyd was the star of the show as he ran the Lions back line ragged, setting up three and scoring one.

Winger James Henry scored a delightful solo goal for Millwall that proved worthless as Lee Tomlin netted twice as well as Mendez-Laing, Tommy Rowe and Boyd notching to move impressive Posh off the bottom of the league.

The game started with a flurry of chances at both ends before Millwall were caught on the counter attack by the pacey Posh front line.

Boyd’s trickery down the left was a constant threat and it was his vision which picked out Tomlin, who fiercely struck a shot into the top corner from 12 yards on seven minutes.

Millwall responded immediately with the tricky Henry attacking down the left and firing a low cross into the area that was put behind for a corner after narrowly evading Rob Hulse.

The Lions continued to pile on the pressure and the game was quickly all square once again.

Left-back Shane Lowry neatly found the in-form Henry again down the left and he delightfully lobbed Olejnik to get the hosts level.

Millwall had plenty of possession in the first half but they couldn’t turn their chances into goals and were punished as Boyd once again dazzled down the left and his cut back found Posh skipper Rowe, who superbly fired home.

Just before the break Peterborough striker Dwight Gayle nearly added athird for the visitors, only to see his shot rebound off of the outside of David Forde’s post.

A double change at half-time by Kenny Jackett didn’t have the desired effect and the visitors nicked a third as Boyd once again found a cross from the left, which was calmly fired home by Tomlin for his 10th league goal of the season on 55 minutes.

Just four minutes later it was 4-1 to the visitors.

Millwall were denied a free-kick in the Peterborough half and while protesting, Mendez-Laing went on a mazy solo run which ended with him firing a delightful strike into the top corner with Forde stranded.

Things went from bad to worse for Millwall as Lowry was shown a straight red card after bringing Gayle down as the former Dagenham & Redbridge striker was through on goal.

Peterborough continued to make the home defence look schoolboy and Tomlin was only denied his hat-trick by substitute Martin Woolford, who cleared off the line.

Boyd capped a superb individual display with the fifth Peterborough goal as he played a neat one-two with Gayle and calmly shot past Forde.
