A GOLFING husband-and-wife team from Bexley just missed out in their attempt to win the prestigious mixed pairs title at the HowDidiDo national matchplay championship in Portugal.

Jane Marr, a 13-handicapper, and husband Paul, who plays off 16, both members of Broke Hill GC, played five rounds of matchplay golf to finish adrift of eventual winners Eileen McMullan and Gary Catt.

Their seven-day, expenses-paid trip to the Algarve comprised complimentary return flights, seven days’ bed and breakfast with five rounds of golf played over the renowned Laguna, Millennium, Old, Faldo and Victoria courses.

They were just two of 32 golfers from across the UK who qualified for the grand final, which featured four competitions - singles, pairs, mixed pairs and senior pairs, for those aged 50 or more.

Each pair played up to four qualifying rounds to reach a regional final, with the knockout rounds taking place between June and September last year and the regional finals in October.
