One giant leap for Lewisham long jumper

A LEWISHAM athlete won gold at the GB European trials and UK indoor championships at Sheffield on Sunday.

Matthew Burton, a member of Kent AC, jumped a personal best of 7.94m in the long jump to defeat Olympian Chris Tomlinson (7.88m) by six centimetres.

Burton’s effort beat last year’s outdoor personal best by 11cm.
