THE PRO-ACTIVE London Awards are back once again to recognise those unsung sporting heroes of the capital.

With the Olympics and Paralympics an incredible success, 2012 was an incredible year for sport in London.

Not only were the performances of the athletes celebrated, but the work of the coaches who got them to the top, and the volunteers who allowed the competitions to take place, have received more coverage than ever before.

Following on from this, the PRO-ACTIVE London Awards pride themselves on recognising and celebrating the substantial achievements of the volunteers and professionals which make sport and physical activity available to millions of Londoners every day.

As well as honouring sports development, physical activity and health professionals, the awards celebrate the voluntary heroes that raise the profile of community sport and healthy activities in London.

The awards are organised by the five County Sports Partnerships which make up PRO-ACTIVE London and are the only awards which celebrate community sport and physical activity on a London-wide scale. Nominations are now open and will run until February 20.

If you know somebody you would like to nominate, visit pro-activelondonawards.org to vote.

The categories open for nomination are: Club of the year, coach of the year, volunteer of the year, young volunteer of the year, outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity, community project of the year, inclusive champion of the year, education partner of the year.

This year’s event will be held on the evening of April 26 at the Oval.
