DARTFORD boss Tony Burman has hinted he will be looking to bring in new players on loan before Friday’s deadline.

And the manager revealed he has been working hard to secure signings from Football League clubs but has been thwarted in recent weeks.

“I’m still hoping to bring some players in before Friday’s deadline for signatures so that they’re eligible to play in the competition, so I’m still doing that,” he said.

“I think we need some reinforcements up front and I have been trying.

“Some people might think I haven’t but I have.

“The players I’ve tried for have all been from Football League clubs but I’ve been gazumped in the window.

“When it looks like it’s happening, another player gets injured in the squad I’m trying to get the player from.

“But I’m not going to sign people for the sake of it.

“I want people who I’d like to have here, whether it is for a month or until the end of the season.”

Burman watched his side do the double over Luton Town on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 1-0 win, but admitted he was forced to change his tactics against a side who have already knocked Wolves and Norwich City out of the FA Cup.

“It was a great result because the players have worked really hard, especially after coming off the back of a defeat to Lincoln City last Saturday,” the Darts boss said.

“The effort was there.

“I’m not saying it was brilliant throughout the game, but I felt we had to play to a certain system I don't like playing at home but I think it paid off.

“We had a couple of half chances in the first half and we could have done better with them and when they don’t go in, in this league something happens and your opponents go up and score.

“Luton nearly did that but I thought we defended well.

“The whole unit in itself was much better and much stronger than what it's been over the last few weeks.

“To get another three points and closer to that 50-mark, I’ve got to give the squad credit where it's due.”

And the boss hailed Ryan Hayes for his winning strike after 72 minutes which lifted the Darts up into ninth and level on 44 points with Luton.

“It was a wonderful goal and he's done that for six or seven years on a regular basis,” said Burman.

“Once he came inside, you know that is what he’s going to do.

“I’ve got to give him credit because I wondered whether he could be consistent and do something at a higher level and we think he can.

“It was an outstanding individual goal.

“I’ve had no sort of club come in for him at all, which I’m delighted about.”
