CHARLTON forward Yann Kermorgant was left to contemplate what might have been as his team failed to hold onto a lead for the third game in succession.

The Frenchman put the Addicks in front against Birmingham on Saturday in the 88th minute.

But a stoppage time equaliser from Wade Elliott denied Charlton a victory which they would have been full value for.

The Addicks laid siege to Jack Butland’s goal for long periods before Kermorgant struck and the result means that the SE7 outfit have now dropped 19 points from winning positions this season.

“We could have won the last six games in a row and we are not too far away,” said Kermorgant.

“It is just little details and the last three games have just have not gone for us.

“We created a lot of chances and their keeper had a good day, he made some great saves.

“He saved the game until I scored the goal but he earned them a point because at the end they equalised. He had a great game.

“I think we did the best.

“We scored just before the end of the game, but once again we conceded a goal in stoppage time, which was very disappointing again.”

Had the Addicks held on to their leads in the last three matches, they would find themselves sitting sixth place in the Championship table.

But failure to do so has meant they are now only six points above the drop zone with Kermorgant believing a play-off push was a realistic target for his side.

He said: “The big difference is in the last two games we scored the first goal early in the game, but this one was just two minutes before the game ended.

“Maybe we thought it was enough and that time was up, but we have to keep going and defend until the end of the game.

“I said to the gaffer before the game we were eight points between the play-offs and relegation, so the game today was like a turn.

“If we won, we could have bounced into the top half of the table.

“But we are still in the middle, so we have to keep working and hope to get a good result in our next game.”
