MCC head coach Mark Alleyne has announced Hartley Country Club wicket-keeper and batsman Scott Mckechnie, has been re-selected for the MCC Young Cricketers (YCs) programme.

Mckechnie made his debut for the YCs last summer and following a series of steady performances with the gloves and the bat, he will re-join the squad for a second season.

First up on Mckechnie’s agenda will be a world-class pre-season training camp alongside a combined MCC Universities team in Abu Dhabi next month.

He will then spend the rest of the summer making the most of the training facilities and expert coaching available at Lord’s, and playing for the YCs in the North Division of the ECB second XI competitions.

Former Gloucestershire and England all-rounder Alleyne, said: “I am really looking forward to welcoming Scott back into the MCC YCs squad for another season.

“He is very professional in his approach to training and playing and has worked really hard on his batting technique this winter, so I expect him to take a lead role within the batting line-up this season.

“The last couple of summers have been frustrating results-wise, and whilst success for the YCs scheme isn’t always about winning individual matches, it is important to ensure we are attracting the attention of county coaches with strong performances on the field.

“I want every player, including Scott, to be out there and challenging for a county contract this season.”
