TWO tries from Charlie Edwards and a conversion from Luke Giles in the opening 15 minutes were enough to put Combe in firm control at Westcliff on Saturday.
Westcliff had more than their share of ball but through phase after phase a mean Combe defence kept them pinned down and 12 points still separated the sides at the break.
The fierce, bitter wind gave Westcliff some territorial advantage early in the second half and Duff Martyn twisted his way to the line before Ben McKeith added the points with the only decent kick of the game.
Combe finally got near the Westcliff line with a couple of midfield breaks and then good forward work saw Dale Bellinger get the third try and Trent Nattrass added the bonus in short order, converted by Giles.
Westcliff had some joy when Tim Healy crossed for their second try four minutes from time but there was still time for Tyron Child to add Combe's fifth for a comprehensive victory.
