SALISBURY City maintained their six point lead at the top of the Conference South table with victory over Bromley on Saturday.

Bromley had gone ahead in first half stoppage time, but three goals in the final 20 minutes gave Salisbury their 12th home league win of the season.

In a dire first half, chances were few and far between. James White went close in the first 20 seconds for the hosts before Louie Theophanous was off target for Bromley at the other end in the fourth minute.

Moses Swaibu headed away from underneath the bar a dangerous looking cross from former Bromley player Emmanuel Udoji, while Lillywhites keeper Joe Welch was alert to deal with Elliott Frear’s low shot. With everybody expecting a cross, the winger sent a lot shot to the base of the near post, which Welch did well to push around for a corner.

As half-time approached, newcomer from Staines Town Max Noble beat Udoji, only to see his effort blocked by another defender on the edge of the six yard box before Bromley opened the scoring in the first minute of first half stoppage time.

Good build up down the right flank culminated in Danny Waldren putting in a cross and Pierre Joseph-Dubois nipped in between two defenders to firmly dispatch into the roof of the net from eight yards.

The second period was a lively affair as Salisbury upped the tempo. Chris McPhee hit the post on 56 minutes and two minutes later Welch denied the former Ebbsfleet player with a smart save at his right hand post.

The visitors should have increased their lead in an isolated attack on 65 minutes when Waldren’s free-kick picked out Ali Fuseini, but the Bromley captain’s timid shot was easily gathered by Mark Scott. From the keeper’s clearance, Frear raced clear before slipping a pass inside to Ryan Brett, whose stinging shot was brilliantly turned around for a corner by Welch.

The pressure finally paid off for the hosts on 70 minutes when Salisbury’s leading scorer James White levelled when he was first to react to lift a shot over a prostrate keeper after Welch had parried McPhee’s initial stinging shot.

The home side sealed the points with two goals in two minutes.

Bromley substitute Tony Finn lost possession in his own area and debutant Robbie Sinclair accepted the gift with a looped shot over Welch on 80 minutes.

And the result was put beyond doubt when Frear’s fierce shot from the edge of the area deflected off a defender to deceive the Bromley keeper.

Despite this defeat, results elsewhere went Bromley’s way and they remain 10th in the table.
