CHRIS Powell remains hopeful of bringing fresh faces in before the transfer window shuts – provided he can get players off the wage bill first.

The Addicks have had a frustrating time of it this month in the search for signings and this week saw potential targets Rob Hulse and Anthony Wordsworth join Championship rivals.

But the wait for a new signing could be about to end with the manager preparing for a busy afternoon and evening ahead as the clock ticks down towards the 11pm deadline.

Powell said at 2pm: “There are still a few hours in the day yet so one or two things might happen.

“It looks like I’m going to have a long afternoon and long evening.

“It has been quite tough because you are fighting against the financial aspect of things with players and with football clubs and it hasn’t been easy.

“But I’m hopeful of maybe doing (something), and it really does depend on maybe people going out before I can act and it is likely something like that will happen.

“I will be able to maybe get one in, one out or possibly even more if finances dictate that.”
