ALMOST 100 youngsters from nine primary schools tackled one another at the Greenwich tag rugby competition at Crown Woods College for the right to represent the borough at the London Youth Games finals, writes Konrad Deckers.

England international player Fiona Davidson was an interested spectator at the mixed boys and girls competition as Charlton Manor Primary School converted their big opportunity and qualified as the Greenwich representatives at the schools finals at Crystal Palace on March 27.

But it was a close tussle after a highly-competitive afternoon of tag rugby which saw Charlton Manor pip Plumcroft Primary 6-4 after extra-time in the final.

The runners-up saw off Horn Park Primary 3-2 in one of the semi-finals, while the eventual winners beat Brooklands Primary 5-2 in their last four clash.

Charlton Manor PE Teacher Ed Price was delighted with his team’s victory.

He said: “We do tag rugby during curriculum time but they don’t play many games, so it’s great to come to a tournament and practice.

“There are loads more teams then last year which is great.”
