TONY Burman is proud of his Dartford team for reaching the FA Trophy quarter-final after Saturday’s 4-2 success against Bromley at a freezing Princes Park.

The manager was relieved to see Darts grab an early goal through constant threat Dominic Green but was also full of praise for his lower league opponents.

Burman said: “Bromley came here and had a go, they had nothing to lose.

“We knew they were going to come at us and they did in the first half.

“We could have been a couple more up at half time, though.

“The early goal settled us down, so I am pleased.”

Saturday’s thrilling victory was Dartford’s first of 2013 after their league form stuttered recently.

Burman knows a good cup run will restore confidence but admits letting in sloppy goals is still a major worry.

“We have played well recently without getting the results,” he said.

“A good cup run is beneficial to everyone at the club.

“But we have to stop conceding goals, today we conceded two goals we shouldn’t be.”

Dartford now have six games in three weeks and the number of competitive matches is bound to take its toll on a relatively small squad.

Competition for places is key to a successful season but with a small budget compared to others in the league, the Darts have to be astute in the transfer market.

Burman understands the next month or so will be a tough test for his squad and is hoping to bring in some new faces very soon.

“We are still talking to a few players,” the Dartford boss said.

“If something comes up then we will definitely do it.

“I have not stopped looking on that front.

“We do need to strengthen the squad and we will try to.

“Playing every Saturday and Tuesday is tough going, so a couple of signings will help that.”

A quarter-final place is a great achievement for Dartford and they will be confident of going all the way to Wembley this year.

Burman admits a home draw is the only thing he is looking for in the next round as the manager is confident his young side can beat anyone on their own patch.

He said: “We haven’t been into the quarter-finals for a long time.

“We hope to be drawn at home in the last eight and possibly against a local side like today.

“I want us to keep pushing on and we have plenty of games this month to pick up points.”
