CHARLTON boss Chris Powell has denied making an enquiry for Bolton Wanderers’ Marvin Sordell after being linked with the out of favour forward.

Powell is keen to improve his squad during the transfer window and was last week linked with a possible loan switch for Sordell.

But the Valley manager says he hasn’t contacted his opposite number at the Reebok about the 21-year-old and also pointed out there are no guarantees Charlton will sign any of their targets this month if the club feel they are being overcharged.

“I haven’t spoken to Bolton or Dougie Freedman about anything like that,” admitted Powell.

“I would like to bring in players that have played in the Championship and who are used to playing against teams at this level.

“They’re the types of player that I would like to bring here - players who know exactly what the Championship is like and will improve us.

“But we’ll have to wait and see whether we get any players in this month.”

He added: “It’s more if I identify a player we will then look at the cost element.

“The club have always backed me, but of course I’m not going to try and spend money we don’t have.

“It’s more a case of me going to them and seeing if we can get anything in order to bring a player in.”
