PATIENCE might be the name of the game if Charlton are to land Colchester winger Anthony Wordsworth.

Wordswoth has been linked with the Addicks since last summer and those rumours have resurfaced again this week.

But although a fan of the 24-year-old and not completely ruling out a swoop before the end of this month, Charlton manager Chris Powell might be willing to wait a little bit longer to possibly sign a player whose current deal runs out in the summer.

The Valley chief said: “He is a player who has been at Colchester for a while and I believe he is going to be out of contract, so maybe they are trying to drum up some interest.

“He is a left-sider, I’ve seen him before and obviously he scored a fantastic goal against us last year but at this present moment he is not a player I will be looking to move in immediately.”

So why do the rumours persist?

“Good question and I couldn’t answer it because it always come up,” replied Powell.

“I know who he is.

“We haven’t consciously watched Colchester or anything but we know about him.

“He is a talented player.

“Obviously Colchester maybe trying to drum up some interest to move players in and out as well because they are in a difficult place and obviously want to freshen things up. I don’t know.

“We will have to wait and see if anything happens with him in January or whether something happens at the end of the season.”
