Shooters Hill 17-12 Old Gravesendians
4:55pm Tuesday 8th January 2013 in Sport
SHOOTERS Hill made a winning return from the festive break with a 17-12 victory over Old Gravesendians.
They started the match with some slick work around the scrum but Gravesendians’ Frazer Barnes scored first by running through the centre.
Matt Holdstock converted.
Aided by a string of penalties, Gravesendians clung onto any possession going and a sure try under the posts was saved by Shoots' No 8 Dave Viney's long arms.
In a close fought half played in slippery conditions,Viney again impressed by driving ahead with the ball.
A little assistance from the wind saw Shoots pile on the pressure after the break, despite three players departing with injuries.
Skipper Kelvin Munro’s try was converted by Edmar Vinluan and another potential pushover was just repulsed.
Full-back Mike Smith scored and Harry Barham and Viney combined to take Shoots to within two metres of another score.
Gravesendians scored a try in the corner from Raphael Sikawabi (12-12) but Henry Sivell went over to secure what was to prove to be a decisive lead.
Shoots cling onto eighth place level with HSBC, while Gravesendians drop to fifth.
