CRYSTAL Palace will have to overcome Premier League Stoke City in areplay if they are to progress in the FA Cup after the two sides drew 0-0 at Selhurst Park this afternoon.

Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen did well to deny Jermaine Easter in the third minute as the Eagles began brightly.

Peter Crouch somehow scuffed a shot wide from two yards in the 12th minute after the home defence failed to clear a Michael Kightly corner, allowing him to whip in another cross which was flicked into Crouch’s path by the head of Michael Owen.

Stuart O’Keefe picked up a yellow card for a late challenge on Jonathan Walters moments before Crouch headed over from Ryan Shotton’s delivery.

Andre Moritz’s 33rd minute free-kick was punched clear by Sorensen but only as far as Dean Moxey on the edge of the area, whose shot was blocked by a Stoke defender.

Moritz went close with a low drive that flew just wide as Palace continued to press and only a super stop by Sorensen kept out Wilfried Zaha’s effort four minutes before the break.

A foul on Zaha by Shotton after he sent in a cross wasn’t spotted by the officials, much to the obvious fury of manager Ian Holloway on the touchline.

Bolasie saw a long range effort go off target early in the second half before Kightly placed a shot just over the bar.

The ball bobbled just before Moritz could connect with Bolasie’s pass and then Bolasie had a 54th minute shot easily saved by Sorensen.

Zaha, who was clearly still suffering from the impact of that first half Shotton tackle, was replaced by Jonny Williams as Holloway made his first change.

Lewis Price did well to deny substitute Cameron Jerome, while Damien Delaney didn’t make the best connection with Moritz’s free-kick and his header went behind for a goal-kick.

Easter made way for Kwesi Appiah two minutes before Bolasie came off for Jason Banton.

And Banton almost made a name for himself when he was released by Moritz but his 74th minute low shot flew just wide.

Williams fired straight at Sorensen after a great move was started by Moritz’s pass to Banton.

Moritz tried his luck from long range two minutes from time but his effort flew over the bar, while at the other end Palace were lucky nodody was able to get on the end of Dean Whitehead’s cross.

But there was to be no breakthrough and both sides will have to do it all again on Tuesday week in the replay.
