CHARLTON boss Chris Powell admits he would like to keep Rob Hulse once his loan spell comes to an end.

Hulse is due to return to parent club QPR on New Year’s Day after a three-month stay at the Valley.

But Powell is planning to speak with the Hoops in the coming days to ensure the 32-year-old remains in south-east London well into 2013.

“His deal is up on the first of January, like Emmanual Frimpong,” the Charlton boss said.

“We will have to talk to their clubs.

“Would I like to keep him?

“Yes, but we don’t know what QPR are thinking.

“We will have to play it by ear but we will see what we can do.”

Hulse stepped into the Addicks squad after injuries to key players and has made the most of his chance at first team football.

The Charlton boss has been mightily impressed with the all-round game Hulse has brought to his side in his short time at The Valley.

Powell believes the fans have also taken to the loanee who didn’t seem to have much of a future at Loftus Road under Mark Hughes.

He said: “Rob has made a really good impression not only to me, my staff and the players but also to the supporters.

“He comes with know-how and experience.

“Rob can lead the line, he’s scored a few goals and made some assists.

“He has done well here in a tricky time when we lost Yann and Ricardo.”

Powell is keen to speak with QPR but is also aware they have their own problems at the moment in the Premier League.

“Harry Redknapp has a few pressing issues at the moment,” the Valley chief said.

“He will know that people like Rob and DJ Campbell are out on loan.

“QPR are doing the best to get some points and get out of the position they’re in.

“I am sure we will speak with them in due course.”
