CHARLTON keeper Ben Hamer praised his side’s defensive display in Saturday’s stalemate at Millwall.

The goalless draw means the two sets of supporters will have to share the south London bragging rights until the duo meet again at The Valley in March.

But the Addicks number one was delighted to get another shut out. “That’s four clean sheets in five for us now,” said Hamer.

“We’ve been really good on our travels this year, we’ve been very defensively solid and now we have another clean sheet and that’s six for the season now.

“We’ve only conceded a penalty in the last five games, it’s a real step forward for us.

“It’s positive and defensively we have been very sound.

“We just want to start scoring some more goals and then I don’t think we’ll be too far away.”

Hamer added: “Michael Morrison got suspended on Tuesday night against Peterborough and that was a big loss for us, so Dorian Dervite came in and he was brilliant.

“I thought he dealt with everything, was defensively superb and gave a really good account of himself and will give the manager something to think about for the next game.”

The previous two meetings between the two sides had produced 12 goals and with goals galore expected, it was almost inevitable the game would produce a blank.

Millwall came closest to breaking the deadlock when former Addicks loanee Dany N’Guessan saw his goal-bound header cleared off the line by Chris Solly.

Hamer was baffled as to how N’Guessan was left all alone, but was quick to credit the ever reliant Solly.

In truth the visitors never really looked likely to get themselves on the scoresheet in front of 18,013 at The Den but the keeper admitted it was a good point nonetheless.

Hamer said: “I don’t know how Dany managed to get himself free but luckily we had Chris Solly on the back post, who has been unbelievable this year.

“He’s been one of our best players once again this year, just like last year. He’s carried on in the same vein of form and was there to keep it out.

“Being the reliable man he is, it didn’t surprise me that he hacked it off the line.”

The Addicks stopper added: “The atmosphere was really good, I enjoyed it.

“I love atmospheres like that.

“It’s why I wanted to be a footballer to play in front of crowds like that, that are as hostile.

“It drives you on and it certainly drove Millwall on.

“You expect that when you come to a place like this, it’s not an easy place to come.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy and we didn’t create as many chances as we would have liked but we got a point out of the game and that is a positive for us.

“We had a few scary moments in the second half at the back, but we were resolute today and it was a great turnout from our supporters.

“They were loud all game and really great for us.”
