DESPITE not playing particularly well Addicks columnist MATIAS GREZ took more positives from last night’s win over Peterborough than Saturday’s Valley draw with Huddersfield.

THERE were a few things wrong with the draw at home to Huddersfield on Saturday.

First and foremost was the team failing to make the most of having a man advantage for almost an hour.

Déjà vu anyone?

The team did what they had to do once Huddersfield went down to 10 men - and deservedly so after seeing replays - which was to keep possession.

However, having possession and doing something with it are two very different and separate things.

Passing and movement were slow and lethargic and it was a surprise Rob Hulse’s goal came as early in the second half as it did.

And a well worked goal it was too.

Ricardo Fuller had a great chance to put Hulse through one-on-one with Alex Smithies soon after, but the Jamaican selfishly opted to go for goal himself and missed.

Danny Green’s introduction to the match was long overdue, with Chris Powell’s hand only being forced after debutant Emmanuel Frimpong pulled up after a shot.

This left me wondering whether Green would have even played had Emmanue Frimpong not picked up what Chris Powell later described as Championship cramp.

Nobody can have any arguments about the penalty that went against Chris Solly which meant, beyond all reason, a Championship referee got all the big decisions in a game right.

Aside from a few niggling fouls and shirt pulls, on Solly in particular, the officials, for possibly the first time this season at The Valley, didn’t wrongly affect the outcome of a match.

This may all sound terribly negative considering the draw meant the Addicks stretched their unbeaten run to four games, but I’d like to call it constructive criticism.

Surprisingly, the poor performance at home to Peterborough was actually very pleasing.

It may have been tough viewing up until Fuller opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, but the fact the team won even though they played poorly is encouraging.

Not one team in this league will play well every game, but it’s all about digging deep and getting the points when you do play badly.

In a nutshell ‘quality is expected, effort is required’.

Perhaps the most pleasing thing about the win against Peterborough was the team weren’t hanging on for victory like they have been in most matches.

Instead, they kept going forward and got the second goal to allow them to see the game out comfortably.

I’m not going to write a lot about us being guaranteed to beat Millwall like I did before the Palace game, as I ended up looking very silly last time.

But what I will say is we can go into the game being very confident of getting a result after picking up 13 points out of a possible 15 and being unbeaten in six on the road.
