MILLWALL extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Ewood Park, lifting the Lions into the play-offs for the first time this season.

Superb goals from Chris Wood and James Henry secured all three points for Kenny Jackett’s side late on after a battling performance against a team many tipped for promotion.

Even a 10-match unbeaten run couldn’t prevent Millwall going into the game as underdogs.

Blackburn’s expensively assembled side, including £8m man Jordan Rhodes, had the ability on paper to inflict defeat on the Lions for the first time since the 2-1 loss to Brighton on September 22, but it was Millwall who upset the odds yet again.

Jackett said: “To come to a side who I feel has some fantastic players, a group players as good as any in the Championship and a new management team with a lot of experience, you have to be at your very best to get anything and to win.

“From the start of the second half Blackburn were excellent.

“They moved the ball from the back very well and caused us problems and the goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.

“We had a bit of luck at the right time and we kept going and we came through it.”

The final scoreline could have reflected even more favourably on Millwall as Andy Keogh found the back of the net three times, only to have all of them ruled out, much to Jackett's frustration.

He added: “In the first half we caused them lots of problems.

“A couple of goals that were disallowed, I don’t know if they or if they weren’t I haven’t seen them again.

“From good opportunities and chances in the first half I did feel we needed a lead something to hang onto going into the second half.”

The Lions finally broke the deadlock with 19 minutes left as Wood’s fantastic solo effort deceived Rovers.

The West Bromwich Albion loan star nutmegged Grant Handley before firing a wonder shot into the top corner from 20 yards, leading to more calls from the Millwall fans to make the deal permanent in January.

Jackett said: “Negotiations are above my head.

“He certainly is doing very well and is in a rich run of form, but I’m sure he will be the first to say that the partners he has had has been very, very good as well.

“Keogh today and Henderson - the partners he has had have helped him out a lot.

“Obviously he is here until Christmas and it’s an obvious one that we would like him further whatever the circumstances happen to be.

“He has done very well for us and it is an obvious thing for us to say if could we get him at Millwall, we would.”

Henry secured victory for the Lions with two minutes left and his stunning strike equalled, if not bettered, Wood’s effort.

But Jackett was not going to let the two goals take all the credit as he hailed the team’s spirit and branded Keogh’s performance as exceptional.

The Lions boss said: “Henry and Wood will get the plaudits for two very good goals and defensively it’s a clean sheet as well.

“I felt Keogh was our leader today and did a lot of unselfish work, which took us to a great victory.”

Jackett had made two changes to the side which beat Leeds the previous weekend with Jimmy Abdou returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Liam Trotter and Henry replacing Liam Feeney.

The manager revealed: “I don’t think he (Trotter) will be back for Tuesday, there’s an outside chance for Saturday.

"We will assess him by next Thursday.

“If he doesn’t make Charlton them I’m confident he will make Ipswich (December 8).”

Millwall’s next test is away on the road to Wolves where they will be looking to build on the victory at Ewood Park.

But Jackett warned his side to avoid complacency.

He said: “We need to keep believing in ourselves and try to stay at this level.

“I hope this type of victory, as when we went to Forest a few weeks ago, gives the players confidence but not over confidence as games like today show them exactly what they can achieve if they work as hard and apply themselves as they did.

“We do need to take the confidence form today’s game to Molineux but we must not dwell on it.”
