ADDICKS columnist MATIAS GREZ is feeling a little bit more relaxed looking at the Championship table after Charlton notched up a third straight win at Burnley on Saturday.

LIFE is finally looking rosy in the red part of south-east London, as Charlton Athletic recorded a solid 1-0 win away at Burnley to make in three in a row.

The victory sees the Addicks leap up to 14th place in the Championship and for the first time this season, there is a significant positive buzz surrounding the team.

After shipping an astonishing eight goals in just two matches against Middlesbrough and Cardiff, Chris Powell has patched up his leaky defence, which has now managed to keep two clean sheets on the bounce, bringing the season’s total to four.

Danny Seaborne’s temporary recruitment from Southampton appears to have worked wonders, with the two aforementioned clean sheets coinciding with his first two matches for the Addicks.

The versatile defender has filled in at left-back, which since Rhoys Wiggins’ injury, has become a very problematic position for Powell with Cedric Evina, Lawrie Wilson and even Chris Solly failing to impress there.

Now, with two home games in the space of four days against Huddersfield and rock-bottom Peterborough to look forward to, Charlton have a real chance of making some serious headway up the table.

Here are a few stats highlighting just how congested the middle section of the Championship is.

Powell’s men are now just five points of the play-off places but are joined on 23 points by three other teams.

There are only three points separating Blackpool in 12th, who are also on 23 points, and Birmingham in 19th, just three places above the relegation zone.

Three points are also all that separate Millwall in ninth , just two points off the play-offs, and Burnley in 15th, who Charlton leapfrogged after their recent success at Turf Moor.

So, if the Addicks do come away from Saturday and Tuesday with the positive results that are probably now expected of them, then everyone will be confident of picking up a win away at Millwall and, subsequently, going above them in the table.

Charlton are unbeaten in six games on the road, winning four of them, and it isn’t very often a team feel more confident on their travels than they do at home.

After the torrid spells we fans suffered towards the start of the season, I think it’s only fair we can now look forward to the next three games and be optimistic of picking up nine points out of nine.

On top of recent successes on the pitch, Powell has also managed to snap up the Dench man himself, Emmanuel Frimpong.

The Arsenal player joins the squad on loan until January 1 and could make his debut as early as Saturday.

It may come as a surprise that Powell has decided to snap-up a central midfielder after recently letting Danny Hollands go out on loan to Swindon to get some game time.

Worryingly, Powell has sounded very open to the idea of allowing Hollands to leave permanently if his loan spell is successful.

However, if the opportunity to sign a proven Premier League quality player arises, you’d have to have very good reason to turn it down.

This fine run has no doubt been down to fine support you have all shown, particularly against Cardiff.

Long may it continue!
