Millwall 1-0 Leeds United

The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate, despite the visitors playing most of the second half with 10 men after Luke Varney’s 48th minute dismissal for an elbow on Adam Smith.

But up popped Wood in the 84th minute to head home Shane Lowry’s cross and ensure all three points for the Londoners.

Jimmy Abdou was in France after the birth of his daughter so Josh Wright came into the starting XI.

Leeds were awarded an early free-kick just outside of the area after a clumsy challenge by Mark Beevers on El-Hadji Diouf, but Michael Tonge’s effort hit the wall before the danger was cleared.

Adam Drury saw a shot deflected behind and just over the bar as Leeds made a bright start.

Liam Feeney’s long range attempt went over, while Chris Taylor just failed to connect with Feeney’s low delivery into the box.

Chris Taylor was involved again moments later when his pull back was hacked clear by a Leeds defender, while Lowry made a vital tackle at the other end before Samuel Byram pulled the trigger.

Liam Trotter shot just over from Wood’s knock down, Ryan Hall placed a low drive straight at David Forde and Wood headed inshes over the bar from Chris Taylor’s delivery.

Millwall came close to get their noses in front when Beevers rose high to meet Chris Taylor’s corner but his header was cleared off the line by Tom Lees.

Paddy Kenny was called into action to deny Andy Keogh and the Irish international saw a 20-yard attempt fly just wide as the interval approached.

The second half exploded into life within three minutes of the restart when Leeds were reduced to 10-men after Varney led with his elbow into a challenge on Adam Smith.

Wood tried his luck from just outside of the area but his shot went and Kenny gathered from Keogh after the striker had met Taylor’s cross.

Wood came within inches of getting on the end of dangerous looking Feeney cross and would surely have scored had he managed to do so.

Feeney was replaced by James Henry just before the hour as Kenny Jackett made his first change.

Taylor’s curling shot from 20 yards flew just wide of Kenny’s far post before Henry attempted a similar long range effort which also went off target.

Michael Tonge blasted an effort high over the bar after meeting Kenny’s long free-kick.

Diouf was needlessly pushed over by Henry, prompting an early yellow card for the Millwall substitute.

Fortunately that was to be the only punishment as Ross McCormack’s free-kick was diabolical.

Millwall did have the ball in the back of the net after Kenny was pushed when coming out to deal with trotter’s cross.

Chris Taylor made way for Dany N’Guessan and the sub played his part in Millwall’s opener two minutes later.

N’Guessan’s pass found Lowry and his fine cross from the left was met by Wood, who powered a header past Kenny from six yards.

With the clock running down, a couple of Millwall fans came onto the pitch before being dragged away by police and stewards.

Tonge blasted a 90th minute free-kick from the edge of the area wildly over, Henry fired wildly over in stoppage time and then Wright’s shot took an unfortunate deflection off Wood.

It didn’t matter though, the points were already bagged by this stage as Millwall’s unbeaten run continued.
