EVER fancied becoming a cricket umpire?
Well, now is your chance because the Kent Cricket Board Association of Cricket Officials (KCBACO) is on the lookout for new recruits for a course in Eltham early next year.
It’s run by volunteer experienced officials who teach cricket laws and spread good practice.
Their main task in winter is training of umpires and scorers. For those seeking progression, training is followed by examinations, assessment and a path to the top.
Cricketers then feel much more comfortable having trained umpires and scorers officiating their matches.
Level one umpires’ courses are being held at Eltham’s Metrogas sports ground every Thursday at 8pm from January 10.
The cost is £80 for 20 hours training, which includes one year’s subscription to the ECBACO, one year’s insurance, all textbooks and other literature and many more benefits.
Existing qualified ACO umpires are encouraged to use these courses as refreshers for £25.
Scorer training is held separately.
