THE first whitewash of the South London & Kent Pool Alliance winter season occurred this week in Division Two as Rileys Rebels ran out all 15 frames against hapless Life of Rileys in just over two hours.
Last week’s defeat brought them back stronger as they were inspired by Louis Wilbourne’s great dish in the second set and the fireworks just kept coming after that.
The full unbeaten team was captain, Trevor Biggs, his son Alex, Declan Kelly, Paul ‘The Doc’ Doherty, Louis Wilbourne and Shane Collins but full credit goes to the Life of Rileys guys who were gracious in their defeat and their spirit for the game continued right through to the end.
This win extends their lead at the top to seven points as the Summerfield, unbeaten in second only managed a 9-6 victory over second bottom Porcupine.
Also winning 9-6 was Pickwick Academicals against the Crown as both teams went up a place in the table to fourth and fifth respectively.
Despite recording their second victory of the season, 8-7 over third placed North Heath Social Club, Fanny on the Hill remain rooted to the bottom of the table, six points adrift.
In the SLKPA Premier Division Rileys Hotshots keep up their unbeaten run by winning 10-5 against close rivals Rileys Woolwich.
Steve Krishnan and Richard Chapman both won all three of their frames for Hotshots with Billy Barnett winning two out of three on his debut including a break and dish in the final set.
Despite his team’s loss Richie Mitchell kept up his winning ways with another three out of three performance, making it eleven out of twelve for the season.
Pickwick’s 9-6 victory over O’Connors took them back into second place, just two points behind Hotshots.
In form Ash Hall recorded three frame wins for the victors and Dean James looked good for his two out of two.
Fox under the Hill A succumbed to their fifth straight defeat of the season losing 10-5 to Bellegrove Social Club A, leaving them eighteen points away from the team above.
Glenmore Arms A took advantage of New Eltham Social Club’s free week to go top of SLKPA’s Division One with an 11-4 win over Bellegrove Social Club B.
James Grant and Alex Thompson both won their two frames while Derek Wilding, Mark Carrano, Alan Rothwell and Pankaj Chilkoti all won their solitary frame.
Rileys Rovers closed the gap to one point but couldn’t take full advantage of New Eltham’s free week after narrowly beating Beech Tree Nuthouse 8-7 in a hard fought match.
Rovers took the first set 3-2 but the Nuthouse won the first three frames of the second to go 5-3 ahead before Geoff Evans and Darren Porter won to tie the game at 5-5.
Buoyed by their comeback Porter went on to win his third of the night and Evans his second to push Rovers two frames in front but Beech Tree won the next two frames with Craig Jones winning his third frame of the night to send the match into a final frame decider, which Ryan Francis won for the Rovers.
Glenmore Arms II dragged themselves off the bottom of the table by beating second bottom Fox under the Hill B who remain winless.
Glenmore went 8-4 up but Fox won the last three frames to make the score more respectable.
Neil Shelton managed two out of two for Fox but Shane Burnett went one better with three out of three for the victors.
