MILLWALL manager Kenny Jackett admits he would like to extend Mark Beevers’ stay with the Lions – but it is now down to the player and Sheffield Wednesday to make the final decision.

Beevers has been a big hit since arriving in a one-month loan deal, making his debut in the 2-1 win over Bolton on October 6.

Millwall are unbeaten during the defender’s time at the club but with the current loan set to run out after Saturday’s game at Nottingham Forest, Jackett is waiting to see what happens next.

The Den chief told News Shopper: “We are in conversations with Sheffield Wednesday but nothing has been decided yet.

“Sheffield Wednesday are going to speak to the player so that is an ongoing process.

“It hasn’t been decided either way.

“I would like to keep him here but what the player feels and what the parent club feels are different things.

“We are open to talking as a club, definitely.”

It was confirmed this morning midfielder Jimmy Abdou had penned a new two-year deal with the Lions, news which pleased the gaffer.

Jackett said: “Jimmy has been a very good player for us and very consistent and we are looking forward to prolonging his stay here at Millwall.”

One midfielder who has attracted plenty of attention in the last 12 months is Liam Trotter, but Jackett explained there were no fresh developments on a new deal for him at the minute.

“Jimmy’s contract was up this summer whereas Liam has another year,” the boss added.

“There have been conversations ongoing but I don’t think it is a situation where it is necessarily imperative.”
