Bromley 3-2 Maidenhead
3:55pm Wednesday 31st October 2012 in Sport
BROMLEY won their first league game since their September victory over Truro City when they overcame Maidenhead United on Tuesday evening at Hayes Lane by the odd goal in five.
The contest should have been over by half-time, as Bromley squandered five or six simple chances to wrap up the game.
But after building up a 3-0 lead within 56 minutes, it was then back to the wall football as Maidenhead missed a penalty and then pulled two goals back, as well as missing several chances.
Bromley made a bright start as Tony Finn screwed an effort off target, Pierre Joseph-Dubois’s header was blocked and Elliott Buchanan flashed a shot just wide of the post before Joseph-Dubois also went close.
The visitors also had two chances when Alex Wall’s goal-bound shot was deflected and after Bromley keeper Joe Welch, had parried Reece Tison-Lascaris’s cross-shot, Bobby Behzadi fired wide of a gapping goal.
Joseph-Dubois fired straight into the arms of visiting keeper Jessie Joronen before Bromley opened the scoring on 24 minutes.
Pacquette chested Marlon Patterson’s throw in to Danny Waldren, who stroked a shot home from the edge of the area.
Joronen foiled Pacquette before Waldren added a second on 40 minutes when a short free-kick was rolled to him and he volleyed home in similar style to the first goal.
The visitors went close in the opening minutes of the second half when as Soloman curled a shot just wide and a Devante McKain free-kick from a central position came to nothing.
But Bromley went three goals ahead on 56 minutes. A long pass out of defence picked out Finn, whose shot was parried to Pacquette who slotted home from 10-yards.
And if Pacquette had scored two minutes later, the game would probably have been over. Instead he shot straight at Joronen when he had only the keeper to beat.
Moses Swaibu was harshly adjudged to have fouled David Pratt on the hour but Welch, diving to his left, pushed Behzadi’s spot kick away.
Substitute Harry Pritchard fired across the face of the home goal before the visitors reduced the arrears when a deep cross from the right found the head of substitute Paul Semakula at the far post. Welch saved full length from Behzadi on 72 minutes, but 60 seconds later Chris Flood’s free far post header from a left wing Pritchard cross further reduced the arrears.
Although Ali Chaaban had a shot saved by Joronen, it was the visitors who went close to gaining an equaliser in the final moments with Pratt shooting wide and Pritchard missing the target before forcing a save from Welch.
