ADDICKS columnist MATIAS GREZ is demanding his side discover a ruthless streak in front of goal after more missed chances in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves denied Charlton all three points.

I ENDED last week’s blog saying that a point at the very least away at Wolves was pretty much guaranteed based on our recent away form.

And I wasn’t far wrong.

Wolves can count themselves lucky to have come away from that match with a point but, then again, so can Charlton.

Both teams had gilt-edge chances to win it with the two best opportunities falling to Rob Hulse.

How he didn’t score only he will be able to tell you.

I was complaining last week at Bradley Wright-Phillips’ chance-conversion rate, or lack of it, and had hoped a player like Hulse, with getting on for 100 Premier League appearances for three different clubs, would be able to convert at least one out of two chances from six yards.

Hulse even needed the much maligned Lawrie Wilson, who looks a different player now he’s been moved to right midfield, to prod home after he somehow missed from practically on the line.

I’m sure in his defence people will be saying that he’s played very little for QPR and is lacking match fitness, but after two back-to-back starts under his belt this won’t be a valid excuse against Middlesbrough.

After the draw against Wolves, I was still hearing rumblings of our misfortune in front of goal.

If it was one match where ‘it really wasn’t our day’ then that’s understandable, but missing clear cut chances game after game no longer equates as misfortune.

It is slightly surprising Chris Powell has rarely alluded to the team’s wastefulness in front of goal in his post-match interviews.

He has often papered over the cracks by stating how wonderful the result was or completely exaggerating the positives the side displayed during the 90 minutes.

I’d like to believe that Powell is a regular reader of my blog as he also recently stated Charlton need to match their home form with their impressive away form, which has now stretched to no defeats in four on the road.

The Addicks boss believes if his team manage to do so then climbing the table in inevitable.

As valuable as picking up points on the road is, something which Charlton did prolifically last season, Powell is under no illusion that picking up three points at home is what really matters.

After two good away points, Middlesbrough on Saturday is the perfect opportunity for the team to show they have the bottle to perform in front of the people that really matter.
