EAGLES columnist SAM ROSS has no doubts who he would like to be the next manager of Crystal Palace – step forward Karl Robinson.

THE next managerial appointment appears a very tough choice for CPFC 2010 but for me there is one person that stands out among all the others - Karl Robinson.

The MK Dons manager is young, talented and ambitious but also has a lot more to learn in the game, something he himself has admitted, and that is why he is the ideal candidate for the job.

He was the youngest manager in the Football League when he joined MK Dons at 29 and now aged 32 I think it will be the ideal time for him to make the step up and manage a Championship side.

Robinson doesn't have a large budget at the Dons so is used to working on low resources.

And while there won't be an increased budget for him to work with in January at Selhurst, I feel he is the right man to take the club forward.

He is a manager who demands respect and places heavy emphasis on players, as well as himself, learning from mistakes.

Robinson has hugely impressed me since his time at MK Dons and talks a lot of sense about the game.

The only thing counting against him is that he isn't ex-Palace.

But after having a legend in Freedman steering the ship, it is time to admit what's past is prelude and look ahead to what would be an exciting future under Robinson.

Steve Coppell is the fans’ favourite for the job and while it would be remarkable for him to make a fifth return to Selhurst, I question his desire to manage again.

Perhaps a role as director of football could be found for Coppell, who could help Robinson out.

But I feel Robinson is his own man and will want to do things his own way.

Other candidates that are tipped for the job include Michael Appleton, who I have a huge amount of respect for after the way he dealt with the Portsmouth situation over the summer.

I feel he is hugely underrated.

Former Palace players who are potential candidates are no way near as appealing as Robinson.

Andy Thorn struggled throughout his time at Coventry, while Carl Fletcher is still proving himself.

Chris Coleman is in a Wales nightmare he simply shouldn't walk away from, Attilio Lombardo is enjoying a nice pay packet with Manchester City and looking forward to an incredible training complex.

Finally there is Tony Popovic, who has just started his own solo managerial career with Western Sydney Wanderers.

The question surrounding Robinson is whether he is prepared, like Freedman was, to leave behind what he has started at MK Dons.

If Robinson was to be appointed manager it would be a very hypocritical managerial appointment from the Eagles and one Palace fans are sure to empathise with the MK Dons fans over.
