Skinner dominates Orion Mob Match

Michael Skinner was the runaway winner of the Blackheath & Bromley mob match against Orion Harriers at Hayes. He won the 7.5 mile cross country race in a time of 45.07 over two and half minutes clear of the field.

His win helped B&B to victory in the match as, scoring 22 a side, the Club won with 378 points to Orion’s 746. In addition, the Club won the Veterans race. With scoring 14 a side, they took 154 points to the visitors 315.

To add to the celebrations Jane Bradshaw was the first woman to finish in a time of 57.08. The race also incorporated the Club 7.5 mile championship so Michael and Jane are the new title holders.

Alex Gibbins (47.43) and Jamie Darling (49.13) were second and third in both the Mob Match and the Club Championships. Amber Reed was second in the womens Club Championship race in 59.06 with Rebecca Taylor third in 61.25.

The race also incorporated the latest round of the Bennett Cup Handicap, a series of 9 races which take place throughout the Winter months. Winner on this occasion was Richard Webb with Roy Smith second and Glen Read third.

Richard also leads the Series after three events on 167 points with Nigel Bulmer second (162) and Roy Smith third (160). However, with 6 events to go, there is still everything to play for, especially as a maximum of 60 handicap points are available to the winner of each handicap race.

Elsewhere, Andy Rayner finished in third place in the Surrey League at Roehampton competing for his second claim club Kent AC. Dave Taylor was 13th for Herne Hill.

Shavaun Henry was 82nd in the Cabbage Patch 10 mile road race in a time of 61.57. This improved her previous best for the distance by 2 minutes. She was the 9th woman to finish.

Fintan Parkinson finished in 29th place at the Abingdon Marathon in a time of 2.52.12. Closer to home, Helen Godsell was 220th in the Croydon 10km in 50.22.

Also on the roads Shaun Lightman finished in 5th place in the Surrey Walking Club 4 mile Gazette Cup at Selsdon. He timed 38.23 with David Hoben 20th in 44.32. Both were back in action again at the Steyning 10km where Shaun was 6th in 57.30, his fastest for nearly 10 years, and David 16th in 72.52. Between them in 9th was Peter Hannell in 62.41.

Plenty of Club members took part in the various Parkruns which take place around the country each Saturday morning. At the event at Orpington, Elaine Murty not only won the womens race, she beat all the men as well. She timed 19.12 for the 5km course with youngsters Bailey Stickings and Joshua Davidson finishing second and third. Bailey’s dad Nigel was 9th, brother Lewis 13th and mum Charlotte 17th.

James Poole won the event at Braunstone in 15.26 and Jessica Keene was first woman at the event at Lloyd Park in 21.29. Youngster James Perry was the Club’s first finisher at Norman Park placing second in 18.46. Another youngster Marco Arcuri was 7th with Mark Daniel in 12th and Arthur Carey 19th also making the top 20. First female finisher from the Club was Chloe Haffenden in 117th. Joshua Skyers was 17th at Dulwich.

As the Club caters for all disciplines, (including cross country, road and track and field), in all age groups, from under 13s upwards to the Masters age groups, it always welcome new members. The Club has a Competition Policy which aims to provide appropriate levels of competition to all athletes of all abilities.
