SWIMMER Luke Gunning has been named as Beckenham’s best sports star at an awards ceremony to promote the town.

For two consecutive years Gunning has been the national champion for his age group in 100m and 200m butterfly and has a promising career ahead.

He trains with Beckenham Swimming Club at the Beckenham Spa for about 20 hours a week.

His coach previously trained Ellen Gundy who competed in the Olympics this year and he believes Gunning has the potential to go on to compete in future Olympics.

The award was presented by Richard Dobell, who is a resident of Beckenham and has more than 200 caps for volleyball having captained the both the TeamGB volleyball team and the GB Sitting volleyball team, who he captained at this year’s Paralympics.
