BEXLEY Swimming Club completed their Kent county championships with some outstanding performances.

Xavier Mohammed, 16, broke two Kent records in the 400m individual medley and 400m freestyle.

Steffi King, 14, won top girl in her British age category while 13-year-old Conor McCue won top boy and Ford Curran took second in the 13 year age group.

For the first time Bexley SC saw a high number of its swimmers compete in the long distance events and win.

Gold went to Kelsey McCue, 16, and Sean Perfect, 15, in the 800m freestyle.

Jodie Cousins and Xavier Mohammed also won gold in the 1,500m together with Jodie Mcmonagle, 13, and Joshua Snow, 14.

Conor McCue and Ford Curran took gold and silver in their age group also in the 1,500m event.

The relays were held in the 50m pool at the National Sport Centre at Crystal Palace and provided much excitement for Bexley's supporters.

Michael Cook, Joe King, Xavier Mohammed and Conor McCue took gold in the 15/16 years medley relay, Sean Perfect then took over the last leg to touch for gold in the junior medley relay event.

Overall the club finished in third place in the Kent's clubs ranking.

Head coach Shelly Camy said: "We had a relatively small group of swimmers compared to some of the other large clubs, but our success ratio was higher with a total of 129 medals won by 26 swimmers.

"This was the best team I have ever taken to the Kent Championships."

Between March 31 and April 1, Bexley SC will be hosting their annual open meet at Crystal Palace with over 45 clubs from the south of England competing for a chance to qualify for the national championships later in the summer.

On the same weekend Steffi King, Michael Cook, Xavier Mohammed and Matt Shead will be in action at the Manchester Aquatic Centre for the British long course championships with an eye on being selected for the European Junior championships and the European Youth championships to be held in July.
