Youngsters swim into top London league

KIDS from Greenwich Borough Mariners (GBM) swimming club will be diving into London Division One next season after winning promotion.

The swimmers, competing in the National Speedo Swimming League for ages nine and up, won enough points over three galas to secure the rise.

Each gala round comprises of 50 events and in the last round, held in Stevenage, GBM needed to continue a string of wins to secure promotion.

However, on the day the club were a relay swimmer short and without a replacement they would forfeit valuable points.

But a replacement was found and a victory by a single point was just enough to win promotion.

If you are interested in joining GBM or want more information, call chairman Nigel Duxbury on 020 8858 8461 or email nigel.duxbury@btin ternet.com
