With Metallica, Snow Patrol and Fall Out Boy in town, March is set to a big month for music. Janine Poole offers her pick of the month’s best concerts.
Frock ‘n’ Roll: March 5
Lend your support to a fundraising night for the Young Greenwich Carers Centre. This event combines fashion and a rock show, with local bands playing while models show off clothes from Greenwich shops including JOY and Cloud 9. The headline band is Fuzzy Logic. ZU2: March 5
One of the world’s leading U2 tribute acts, ZU2, will be playing more than two hours of music from U2’s back catalogue, covering songs from their debut album right through to their present day material. 7.30pm. £11. The Orchard, Home Gardens, Dartford. 01322 220000.
Fall Out Boy: March 6
The multi-platinum selling band return to the UK this month on a tour in support of fourth album, Folie Á Deux. The pop-punk foursome will play a collection of hits including I Don’t Care, the first single from their latest album, along with older songs such as Dance Dance, Thnks Fr Th Mmrs and This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race. 6.30pm. £26 (bkg fee). The Licks: March 7
This is the first local performance for new band The Licks, whose members are already established musicians. Tuff The Duo: March 7 and March 13

Jazz Circus Album Launch: March 8
Visit the Jam Circus for a night of free jazz at the launch of What Jazz Can Do (For Your Life) by Jazz Circus. They describe themselves as jazz straight without the frills, but with all the thrills and spills. Accompanying them will be beat poet John Jazzy Clarke. 8pm. Free. Syd Lawrence Orchestra: March 12
Recently voted the Best Big Band in the Land for the 11th consecutive year, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra brings their new show, The Best of the Big Bands, to The Orchard. Led by Chris Dean, this evening will feature a mix of the most distinctive music to grace the turntable along with audience banter, to create a fun blend of music and humour. Denounce: March 13

Strange Fashion: March 13

Snow Patrol: March 14 to March 16
This is the first time since 2007 the indie boys have performed at The O2 arena. They are back in the UK on their Take Back the Cities Tour and will be playing hits from their latest album, A Hundred Million Suns, along with songs from the 2007 number-one album Eyes Open. 6.30pm. £32.50. Trinity College of Music - Consortium 5: March 17
This is your chance to hear The Trinity College of Music Consortium 5 Recorder Consort in the Old Royal Naval College Chapel. Consortium 5 are a vibrant and exciting young recorder quintet who formed in 2005 and have since established themselves as one of the foremost recorder consorts of their generation. 1pm. Krista Detor: March 20
Since her last visit in October 2006, Krista Detor's profile has boomed. The pianist and singer/songwriter from Indiana has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro and Leonard Cohen. Your Country Live: March 25 to March 27
The O2 present’s headline acts Ben Lee, Malkit Singh and Myslovitz as they play exclusive gigs over three nights in March at the IndigO2. TCM Symphony Orchestra & Chorus: March 27
James Judd conducts Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Brahms’ Requiem in a concert which will also feature a new fanfare for orchestra by 4th year composer Nick Jones. Charity Fundraising Concert with special guest Jo Brand: March 28
This concert is in aid of the Dulwich Helpline, a small registered charity which provides volunteer help and support to older people in the community. They also run more than 20 varied and stimulating activity groups including poetry, music, art appreciation and gentle exercise. Performing will be The New Foxtrot Serenaders, an exuberant vintage dance band who recreate the timeless melodies of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Metallica: March 28
The four horsemen of thrash return to The O2 arena for two nights of classic metal. Fresh from the success of their latest album, Death Magnetic, the band are firing on all cylinders. Greenwich University Swing Band: March 29 Join the ever-popular Greenwich University Swing Band as they make a welcome return to the Community Association of New Eltham.
