CHRISTMAS got off to an early start at a fair raising more than £4,000 for a children’s charity.

The Beckenham District of the NSPCC held the event at Harcourt House, Grasmere Road, Bromley on November 23 which 567 people attended.

Christmas carols were sung by the London Concert Chorus who also perform at the Royal Albert Hall.

Other performances took place while people looked round stalls providing mulled wine, mince pies, gifts, Christmas flowers, cards and a raffle.

Sixty-two children paid Father Christmas a visit in his grotto and were each given a present.

The festive decorations were provided by the Orpington Flower Arranging Society.

Event organiser Freda Davis said: “Even though it was raining and all that cold weather, people came along which was lovely.”

The group will be holding its summer fair on July 12 at the same address.
