FIREFIGHTERS spent four hours battling a blaze in a disused shop in Woolwich last night (October 18).

Fire crews from Woolwich, Eltham and Plumstead were called to the fire at 10.04pm to find the empty shop on Hare Street engulfed in flames.

Half of the first floor in the three-storey building was damaged by the fire, while more than a third of the roof was wrecked by the blaze.

Firefighters were forced to use breathing apparatus to tackle the fire and left the scene at around 2.10am this morning.

No-one was injured in the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.
