Councillor backs Boris in mayoral race

BEXLEY Council leader, Councillor Ian Clement is hoping Tory MP Boris Johnson will be London's new mayor.

Cllr Clement signed the nomination papers for Mr Johnson, who announced today that he would enter the mayoral race.

Cllr Clement said "We need a strong candidate to open the debate on how we make London a better place to live and work.

"Boris has already said he has not got all the answers, but intends to assemble a team of all the talents, regardless of political allegiance.

He went on: "I have nominated him for party selection and he will join all the other candiates who have put their hats in the ring.

"And I hope he will go forward as our candidate to run against Ken Livingstone next year."
