I welcome Kent County Council’s decision not to support Gravesham Council’s plan to build up to 1,300 houses on green belt on land just off Astra Drive in Riverview Park, Gravesend.

There is clearly no need for it as there is plenty of brown field and urban land that could be used in Gravesham.

In Kent County Council’s response to Gravesham Council, they said that the green belt at Riverview Park should be protected for future generations and should not be used for housing.

While Gravesham Council leader Councillor John Burden was suggesting that the green belt at Riverview Park was suitable for a mass housing development, he objected to the possibility of a Lower Thames Crossing road, which was on exactly the same piece of green belt land.

We do not want a Thames crossing road or an additional 1,300 additional houses on our precious green belt in Gravesham East.

Building on the green belt anywhere in Gravesham must to be resisted.
