The government along with a charity was going to set up a network of food banks where families on low incomes, benefits and pension credits could go to get food items if they are in a crisis.
As the government crisis loan system via DWP is being scaled back with people only entitled to three crisis loans in a 12 month period, we can understand why the new system is being introduced in these hard times.
Unfortunately there are no local charity food banks in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham. We hope the government and charity will open food banks in each of these areas as we cannot expect people in a real crisis to have to travel several miles to the nearest charity food bank to collect food, especially with small children or if they are disabled.
