WITH Halloween tomorrow, what are you most scared of? What’s the one thing above all else that gives you the heebie-jeebies?

Perhaps you share some of the bizarre fears of people who responded to a survey commissioned by visitor attraction Ripley’s Believe It or Not! London

It found that while the most common phobias are the expected creepy-crawlies, life-changing events and scary beasts, there are also some unusual things that scare the living daylights out of people such as balloons popping, feet and men with beards.

When asked to detail any of their more unusual frights, responses included knees, spirals and ambient music. Some of the strange food-related fears were potato salad, carrots, peas and wooden lolly sticks.

Natascha Crump, general manager at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! London, said: “There are many common fears that a lot of us share but here at Ripley’s we celebrate all that is unusual across the globe so delving into our more bizarre phobias was fascinating.

“It is interesting to find out about people’s fears of nylon sheets, chickens and being the sole survivor of an apocalypse.

“It is also curious to see the affect that modern life is having on our fears as responses such as losing your laptop, the television breaking and being cut off from social media featured in the list of the UK’s phobias.”

From the survey, the top 10 most common ‘unusual’ fears were:

  • Being the last survivor on earth
  • The TV breaking
  • Clowns
  • Balloons popping
  • Chickens
  • Feet
  • Being cut off from social media
  • Men with beards
  • Nylon sheets
  • Breaking a nail

Other anecdotal fears included:

  • Knees
  • Cut fingernails and toenails
  • Ambient music
  • Wooden lollypop sticks
  • Stilt walkers
  • Potato salad
  • Carrots
  • Identical twins
  • Peas
  • Spirals
